CHILD SAFEGUARDING POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Preface for Approval

The Jesuit Chinese Province established the “Protection of Minors and Professional Standards Office”
(hereinafter referred to as the “Child Safeguarding Office”) in July 2019.
The purpose of the “Child Safeguarding Office” is to assist the Jesuit Communities and Institutions
to prevent children from being harmed in any way.

Our goal is proactively to build up a friendly and evangelical environment,
and to help the Provincial deal with the allegations related to offenses to minors.
Therefore, the “Child Safeguarding Office” published the pilot versions of the “Child Safeguarding Policy”
and the “Child Safeguarding Procedures,” both in Chinese and English in 2021.

In the last three years,
there has been significant progress in the field of Child Protection within the Church and society.
In response to these developments and the practical implementation experience gained over the last three years,
the “Child Safeguarding Office” has collected the feedback and comments
from various Church communities and from individuals,
and has submitted to me the official version of the “Child Safeguarding Policy”
and the “Child Safeguarding Procedures” both in English and Chinese.

I am pleased to approve these official versions.
With the continuing efforts of the “Child Safeguarding Office” and all our mission partners,
it is our hope that we will make all Jesuit communities and institutions safer places for minors,
vulnerable adults and everyone else.
The “Child Safeguarding Policy” and the “Child Safeguarding Procedures”
in English and Chinese editions will be revised every three years, after a review of its implementation,
in order to be updated with the changing times.
